About Solar Blast

Solar Blast, Instant, designed by Greg Staples first released in May, 2020 in the set Onslaught and was printed exactly in 4 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 2.97.

Solar Blast would be beneficial in a red aggressive deck looking to deal direct damage and maintain card advantage through cycling. While it offers flexibility in being able to deal 3 damage to any target or cycle for a card and deal 1 damage, there are potentially better options like Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning which provide more efficient damage output for the same cost. However, Solar Blast could still see play in decks that value its versatility and cycling ability.

Cycling is an activated ability. Effects that interact with activated abilities (such as Stifle or Rings of Brighthearth) will interact with cycling. Effects that interact with spells (such as Remove Soul or Faerie Tauntings) will not.

The cycling ability and the triggered ability are separate. If the triggered ability doesn’t resolve (due to being countered with Stifle, for example, or if all its targets have become illegal), the cycling ability will still resolve and you’ll draw a card.
