Brain Pry could be beneficial in a discard-focused deck looking to disrupt the opponent's hand and gain card advantage. However, there are more efficient options like Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek that provide more immediate and versatile hand disruption. While Brain Pry could have situational uses in specific metagames, it may not be the optimal choice for most decks and might not see widespread play in competitive Magic: the Gathering formats.

You name the card during Brain Pry’s resolution, then the player reveals their hand and discards if appropriate. There is no way for the player to do anything between you naming the card and the player discarding.
