About Crimson Wisps

Crimson Wisps, Instant, designed by Jim Nelson first released in May, 2008 in the set Shadowmoor and was printed exactly in 3 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 7.66.

Crimson Wisps would be beneficial in a red aggressive deck looking to push through damage quickly, as it provides a temporary boost to a creature's color and haste, while also replacing itself by drawing a card. However, in a competitive Magic: the Gathering environment, other cards like Expedite or Crash Through may be more efficient options for similar effects, as they offer additional benefits like cycling or cantripping. While Crimson Wisps may not see widespread play in top-tier decks, it could still find a home in more casual or budget-focused red decks.

An effect that changes a permanent’s colors overwrites all its old colors unless it specifically says “in addition to its other colors.” For example, after Cerulean Wisps resolves, the affected creature will just be blue. It doesn’t matter what colors it used to be (even if, for example, it used to be blue and black).
