A deck focused on token generation and wide board presence would benefit from including Squad Captain in its strategy, as it can enter the battlefield with a significant boost in power based on the number of creatures you control. However, there are potentially better cards for this type of deck, such as Trostani Discordant, which not only boosts your creatures but also provides additional benefits like lifelink and creating more tokens. Whether Squad Captain should see play depends on the specific synergies and game plan of the deck, but it could be a solid inclusion in the right build.

If Squad Captain somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another creature you control, it doesn’t count that other creature. It counts only creatures that are already on the battlefield.
